Portumna Retirement Village was named as one of the leading nursing home centres in Ireland on Friday 9th November, when it won the ‘Best Team’ award at the Action Coach Business Excellence Awards 2012.The winners were named at an awards banquet at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Stillorgan in Dublin and this is the first year that the centre had been considered. It is regarded as a tremendous achievement given that the business was only established five years ago.In awarding the prize, the independent panel of judges recognised the tremendous team spirit that was evident in the retirement village, as well as the commitment of the staff to the residents and the commitment of management to investment in staff to promote excellence. The judges also commented on the quality care and organisation recognised by the Health Information and Quality Authority during inspection visits in 2012.Speaking at the awards, General Manager at Portumna Retirement Village Peter Feerick paid tribute to the team. “This is a team award for a group of dedicated people that richly deserves this recognition. It is a privilege to lead a team who every day demonstrate a determination to deliver a quality service to our residents in a kind and caring way,” he explained. “Our team puts our ethos into action. Our ethos consists of two simple factors. Firstly, that the resident must always come first, and secondly that we must always try to do better today, what we did yesterday. It is by building on this ethos that we continue to serve our residents.”Portumna Retirement Village is also a finalist in two categories of the NHI Nursing Home Care Awards 2012, which will be presented at an awards ceremony at Citywest on Thursday 15 November.
